Praise for Sarah's previous books:
100 Cookies:
"Sarah Kieffer is the one who broke the Internet with her pan-banging cookies, large, chocolate-rich, and rippled like sandbars. And this book offers plenty of bangers, with a whole chapter of crinkly treats for those who like to make some noise on the way to dessert. Baking them all could be your winter challenge."
–The Boston Globe

"Kieffer's book is a baker's baking book, but it's also completely unpretentious. There are cookies for when you just want a good cookie, and more ambitious recipes for when you want to attempt palmiers or break out a culinary torch."
—Food & Wine
Baking for the Holidays:
"In this cheerful collection, Kieffer, founder of The Vanilla Bean Blog, shares dozens of sweet recipes perfect for the holiday season. . . . Avid holiday bakers should put this on their wish list."
—Publishers Weekly

Bestseller Kieffer (100 Cookies) presents enticing breakfast goodies in this pleasant volume. Her recipes will satisfy an array of palettes, from breakfast classics like pancakes and buttermilk cinnamon rolls to more adventurous fare, including toasted sesame sweet buns and white chocolate and fig pound cake. Fans will notice that Kieffer has refreshed some recipes from her previous books: in her latest rendition of blueberry muffins, she adds almond flour for a more tender texture, and readers won’t need to use a stand mixer for her newest version of brown butter banana bread. Those in the mood for more savory breakfast items will be pleased with such options as prosciutto Gruyère croissants and ham and cheese breakfast sliders. Kieffer shares helpful, step-by-step photographs for some of the more time-consuming recipes, including how to assemble the blood orange poppy seed pull-apart bread and how to shape the dough for a cream-filled Danish. This volume is a must for bakers at all levels who want to create memorable morning meals.

Kieffer's ample offerings leave no sugartopped pastry untouched. Quick breads, muffins, scones, laminated pastry, coffee cakes, brioche, and pull-apart breads beckon from the pages, jumping off of airy, white-marbled backgrounds and glistening with glazes. Some of the more nuanced recipes from the Vanilla Bean blogger include grapefruit-glazed muffins, lemon meringue bread, giant carrot cake cinnamon rolls, brioche bagels, and lemon curd bostock. There are plenty of bakery classics to choose from as well: morning buns, Danishes, donuts, and sweet yeast rolls will make mouths water. Those who eschew sweet treats can also find a few decadent savory options in eggy brunch bakes like sheet pan breakfast (a Danish dough-lined, kitchen-sink-versatile dish) and individual quiches, or an enticing pesto pull-apart bread. Most of these are anything but one-bowl bakes, requiring additional time to prepare one of Kieffer's base doughs, a filling, or a topping of some sort, but the dedicated baker will surely earn and enjoy their special Saturday morning treat by putting forth the effort.

In her latest offering, notable baking author Kieffer employs the successful format of her previous cookbooks to present an appealing range of recipes for breakfast pastries and baked goods. Recipes reflect the U.S. penchant for sweet treats at breakfast and brunch, with options including sugar- and butter-laden muffins, scones, quick breads, coffee cakes, and yeasted breads. Readers will notice a higher level of difficulty in the recipes here, compared to Kieffer's previous titles. Even the recipes for muffins and quick breads (a beginner's baking staples) are frequently overcomplicated by the addition of fussy icings, toppings, and mix-ins. The book also features a number of challenging recipes for yeasted and braided breads, laminated pastries, and fried treats that will primarily appeal to bakers with more experience. VERDICT Kieffer's last two cookbooks (100 Cookies and Baking for the Holidays) earned critical acclaim and best-seller status, so expect high demand for this title. Although it isn't as accessible for beginners as those previous titles, experienced baking enthusiasts will find a lot to love.--Kelsy Peterson
