Preschool-K Kids will feel a rumble of excitement upon opening this selection from the Be an Expert series (4 titles), in which eight types of construction vehicles (e.g., diggers, rock breakers, cranes) get to work. Each big machine gets an uncluttered but engaging double-page spread occupied almost entirely by a photographic construction scene, a large heading followed by a short sentence or two, and an info box. For example, Bulldozers tops a spread showing two of these vehicles (clearly labeled) at a work site with the words, Push that dirt.; a Zoom In box identifies different parts of the bulldozer. The visual design and upbeat tone ( Here come the mixers! ) will hold young readers' attention, and an identification quiz, a diagram of construction safety gear, and a picture glossary round out the volume.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
