K-Gr 2-The sixth set in this series is disorganized and the phonics focus is not consistently featured in the text. For example, in Sammy the Silly Hot Dog the phonics focus highlighted is the long /o/ magic/silent e pattern and the long /u/ magic/silent e pattern. A word that follows that pattern is included a negligibly small number of times in the text, leaving the reader with scant opportunity to practice the targeted skill. As with some of the other titles in this series, the content and plotlines are absurd and unengaging. The comprehension questions don't feel designed for kids to answer successfully and do not highlight the most important themes and takeaways of the books. VERDICT This series doesn't deliver on what it promises.
